EVE series

Part of my practice as an artist is exploring the fragility of the human condition. We are confined to flesh and bone unable to escape the form we are born into until we die. My prints reflect decay within the body. I created the “Eve” series by pressing my vagina on watercolour paper when I was menstruating. These prints change colour over time as the blood breaks down within the paper and becomes darker. Menstruation is an uncontrollable bodily function that society dictates has to be controlled, contained and hidden as it is “dirty” and “unclean”. I am documenting my body in its natural state because I feel that the degradation and fragility of the material reflects the inevitable end of our existence and the impermanence of life.
